The Artist
Debbie Lund is an emerging artist who portrays the silent beauty of nature and the animals we love on location from her countryside art studio in Pritchard British Columbia, Canada
Deb grew up on a beautiful remote cattle ranch within the heart of the Highland Valley with her family and she excelled in the arts and riding horses. She was a big part of their ranch managing the cows with her mom on their 3,000 acres plus rangeland and loved to fearlessly gallop through the mountains, chasing the coyotes and jumping any and every obstacle that was in their path, or to simply enjoy a quiet ride just being alone in nature with her horse Gus loving each moment together. There was never a day that Deb was not without her sketchbook and her horse going on adventures within the back-country drawing and painting the life she lived.
Never losing site of her dream of becoming a full-time artist, after she married and raised 3 children, Deb continually pursued to self educate herself to become a skilled artist while managing a business that she built at home.
In 2004, her journey began, and Deb was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists as an ACTIVE member. Since then, she is achieving multiple honorable awards in local and regional FCA and international art shows, plus published in Western Horse Magazine. She was also accepted to have one of her images “The Jump” featured on a young adult’s book cover and is in the currently in the process of achieving Signature Status with the FCA
When Covid stopped the world, Deb’s business of 15 years “Country Pawz Estates” a dog boarding retreat that she loved dearly and built on her own, came to a sudden halt when travel was banned, It was closed down and she lost everything that she built and loved. After taking a breath and realizing that a change was eminent, she dove into her creative dream full time. Both, Deb and her daughter Marleesa bought a pair of hiking boots, a backpack, a few other things that they “thought” was important… like wine….and the 3 of them (including her wolf kayah) headed into the backcountry of Kananaskis and Canmore to figure their lives out. It changed them forever.
On their first trip down from a summit, exhausted and needing a rest, Deb stopped, she turned to look at what they had just completed, and before her lay an incredible vista of snow-capped mountains, the peak they had just accomplished in a valley that simply had no end. The energy of pure life, untouched beauty and a silent knowledge she felt was so profound that it truly took her breath away, Deb simply had no words and as the tears silently fell, she knew without a doubt that this would be her life, backpacking into the wilderness and being able to share this journey with others. She didn’t know the how yet… but she finally knew her “why”
Portraying beauty, grace and spirit of life in nature, is becoming her newfound passion in life.
With mentors supporting her, she is on a beautiful soul-led journey of becoming a Master Artist. She is not only achieving how to find her artistic style, but she is capturing the true effects of light, atmosphere and profound emotions in her images. She is always taking steps to be brave and go into the unknown wilderness with her wolf Kayah and now she has a little mule named “Batman” to go with her.
Finding her inner wisdom and strength through nature has always given Deb the answers of how to follow her dreams but finding her true independence through the experience of backpacking and what the mountains have taught her, she is now deeply inspired to help others do the same with her paintings through her journeys.
